Reviews and Publications

Atmospheric Conditions, Triton Hotel Mezzanine Gallery, April 23-May 29, 2009

“As a photographer of urban landscapes I’m elated when there are clouds to give texture to the sky. Throughout my life the elusive, ethereal, and elemental beauty
of clouds has enthralled me. In this new collection of work, Atmospheric Conditions, the clouds and fog play a starring role as San Francisco becomes the backdrop.
I tend to see patterns of color, shapes and shadows in both natural and man-made environments, capturing in my images the beauty created when these two environments combine.”  —Charlotte Kay

Quote from SF WEEKLY: April 17, 2009

Send in the Clouds — by Michael Leaverton

"If you’re a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, it helps to live among  them. Charlotte Kay lives 200 feet above the already high Russian Hill .... The clouds regularly engulf her — the difference between clouds and fog is small and of no consequence to the CAS. As a member in good standing, she’s pledged “to fight blue-sky thinking” wherever she finds it ...Kay follows the tenets of the society most spectacularly by hauling herself out to her balcony and photographing the cloud/fog. The pictures in her solo exhibit,

“Atmospheric Conditions,” are sublime and exalted,  full of William Blake
dreaminess and Walt Whitman
dreaminess and William Wordsworth dreaminess — all is dreaminess, up there in the cloud/fog."

Quote from ArtBusiness.com  (04.30.09)

"Wonderful images here of the city's tourist destinations, but enhanced with digital colors. The art in places looks like watercolors with buildings melding into the digital art. The color schemes are vivid with oranges and pinks of alpenglow. The fog is magical, and not ominous for foreboding. The sky is heavenly. With the digital enhancement these could be postcards of the city, something a visitor or resident would like to take home, celebrations of this special city."
